“I couldn’t have foreseen that her career would take the direction [that it did]. Not to diminish her [acting] ability, but she played a great Madonna.

“And it’s very difficult to play a great version of yourself [when you have little experience and all these marks to hit].”

That’s what director Susan Seidelman said about Madonna, one of her Desperately Seeking Susan stars, to those of us who gathered last night at the ArtCenter/SouthFlorida to hear her speak at a seminar sponsored by the Entertainment Industry Incubator as part of its Miami Filmmaker Project‏ Series.

It’s good to hear M’s ability on film celebrated from time to time, you know.

Nostalgia, Pt. 22

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are currently facing rampant rumors of a split.

We all know the media who report on this sort of thing need to say or write something – even if it’s not true.

And let’s face it, she’s Madonna. The media, whether they admit it, are obsessed with her every move.

We don’t know what happens in the Ciccone-Ritchie household, but we definitely know this: Madonna understands it’s not easy having a good marriage.

Not too long ago, she and Ritchie interviewed each other on the occasion of the release of Swept Away, and their rapport was evident.

Here’s hilarious proof, in Part I and Part II of that sit-down, that the two loved and cared for each other then – and still do, I’m sure – and that the little-seen 2002 remake wasn’t all that bad.

Nostalgia, Pt. 11

TNT’s The Closer returns next Monday at 9 p.m. for its third season with a premiere free of commercials – yay!

You know, I’ve missed Kyra Sedgwick’s lovable and tough Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson – I adore her so.

But oh, how I’m going to miss the Tom Everett Scott-starring Saved. The last time we saw his Portland, Ore., paramedic Wyatt Cole, his and his friends’ jobs at LifeShield hanged in the balance, he finally had admitted to himself his true feelings for Alice (Grey’s Anatomy guest star Elizabeth Reaser), and he had been hit with a stroke of fate – a speeding truck! – that would alter his life forever.

That was last summer. This summer all I have is an urgent question: Where is Saved, TNT? I thought you knew drama.

Even though the show debuted with what I would imagine was a healthy 5.1 million viewers, Saved was not renewed for a second season. Not frakkin’ cool.
